Adolescent is Easier Depression and Anxiety If Eat Less Fruits

Youth is full of turmoil, so normal that adolescents are often troubled or stressed. But the turmoil in adolescents is not only affected by the problems facing everyday, because of eating less fruit may also influence it.

A study at Deakin University has recently revealed that industrious teenagers to eat vegetables and fruits are relatively less likely to have psychiatric problems. Conversely, if often eat fast food and less nutritious, teens will be susceptible to depression and anxiety.

This fact is inferred based on observations conducted by researchers of 3,000 adolescents aged 11-18 years across Australia. During the period of 2 years since 2005, the participants' eating patterns were observed and experienced a variety of psychiatric disorders were also recorded.

Felic Jack, the scientist who led the study, said there are close links between diet or a diet with a level of unhappiness. But in its publication in the journal PLoS One, he did not explain more detail how both can be intertwined.

He only suggested, adolescents need to consume 2 servings of fruit and 5 servings of vegetables every day if you want to avoid stress. Consumption of wheat or other complex carbohydrates such as yams and potatoes also need to be increased, while rice and fast food should be reduced.

"Eating foods with high nutrition is very important for adolescents because they experience during this period of rapid growth and dynamic. Adequate nutrition will be very helpful," Jack said as quoted by Xinhuanet, Sunday (09/25/2011).

Various psychiatric problems such as depression and anxiety so often experienced by teenagers. One study even revealed, 1 in 5 teenagers in Australia had at least one type of good psychiatric problems triggered by stress or genetic factors or environmental factors.
